Writer/authors are a funny group of people. They come in a gamut of personalities. Yes, there are those with god complexes, they think everything they write is better than you. You’ll even find what I call “Fort Knox” authors, people unwilling to share any secret on how they achieved success in the industry. Heaven forbid they give anybody else a leg up. I think it’s because they don’t want more competition. 🙂
The great news is these writers are not the norm. Most authors love to talk shop, so don’t be afraid to ask questions when you meet one. And maybe even more important than that, please remember writing is like all creative work, it’s subjective. What one person might think is terrible, another person can’t stop praising. So stop worrying what others may think, if you desire to write, start spill words onto a page today. I’m not going to lie, the process to a finished, polished novel is long, but there is joy to be had in that process if you focus on the moments you create chapter after chapter. Whether or not the manuscript will sell once you’re finished is the last thing you should be worried about.
